Brownies are one of my favorite treats, especially when they are soft and hot right out of the oven. Add a little scoop of ice cream and some hot fudge… Ok, I am getting sidetracked.

This is an easy homemade brownie recipe that makes a 13″ x 9″ pan of perfection. It takes about 15-minutes to prepare them and 35-minutes to bake. They are a great treat for after school snacks, birthday parties, or any holiday gathering.

You can make these brownies with or without the chocolate chips. You can also change it up a bit and add peanut butter chips or white chocolate chips, or holiday colored M&M’s for a different type of treat.

Brownie recipe with cocoa powder

Sift the flour, cocoa powder, and salt into a medium-sized bowl.

Sifting the items together will help blend the ingredients together better. If you don’t have a sifter, you can use a strainer if the holes are small enough. I use mine to drain meat as well as sift flour. Double duty!

This is a moist brownie recipe that makes a great treat.

Sifted flour.

Homemade fudgy brownies are easy to make and are a tasty dessert.

Pour the flour mixture into the egg mixture and blend.

Add a little bit at a time until all of the flour mixture is blended in. You’re almost there. Mmm…

Chocolate chips are a great addition to any brownies.

Before you add the brownies to the batter, toss the chocolate chips in a little bit of flour.

I can’t explain the science behind this, but if you toss the chocolate chips in the flour, it will keep them from sinking to the bottom of the brownie while they cook.

Now, don’t get me wrong, I will still eat the brownies if all of the chocolate chips sink to the bottom. But, you gotta admit, they do taste better spaced out within the batter.

Add the chocolate chips, mix them into the batter, and spread it into a greased 13″ x 9″ casserole dish.

These are going to be thick, chewy, and the perfect moist brownie recipe.

Bake for 35 minutes or until a cake tester comes out clean. If you don’t have a cake tester, a knife or toothpick will work just as well.

Is brownie batter supposed to be really thick?

Yes, this batter will be very thick. Once cooked, the brownies will stay moist and fudgey on the inside, even on the off-chance they don’t get eat on the first day.

The top of the brownie has the crunchy shell, and the chocolate chips add some richness to the dessert.

I promise this will be your go-to recipe for the best brownies in the world.

This is such a wonderful treat and it really is so much better than brownie mix recipes.

Why do my brownies get hard?

Over mixing brownies can lead to hard brownies. Be sure to mix enough to incorporate the ingredients and then add to the baking dish.

Do brownies rise?

Yes, the brownies will rise a little bit. They won’t typically rise as much as a cake, but they will rise some.

Do brownies freeze well?

Brownies freeze pretty well, just make sure you wrap them up in Saran Wrap and then inside of a sealed bag to keep them from getting freezer burn. You can freeze them up to a couple of months, although fresh brownies will always taste the best.

Rich, moist, fudgy and delicious brownies.
