Royal Wedding Menus vs. Southern Wedding Menus

The Royals sure know how to have a party. Wondering what was on the Royal Wedding Dinner Menu?

Read on to learn some of the different foods served at the Royal reception and Southern Weddings.

The royal wedding dinner menu

Today is the day! The Royal Wedding between Prince Harry and Meghan Markle has taken place and all of the world is watching.

I got up at 5:45 a.m. EST to watch the guests arrive and see the beautiful bride walk down the aisle. Meghan Markle looked timeless and gave us romantics a lot to gush over.

Now the wedding is over, and it’s time to eat!

So, when you attend a Royal Wedding, what can you expect to eat?

The chefs are hush, hush on the details, but we do know a few things about the Royal Wedding Dinner Menu.

The Royal Cake

The Royal Wedding Cake is going to be talked about for a long time.

Prince William and Kate had an eight-tiered cake, complete with dried fruits soaked in French brandy. The icing flowers on the cake included roses, daffodils, thistles, and shamrocks representing England, Wales, Scotland, and Ireland.

Meghan chose a tiered cake on multi-levels with buttercream frosting. Oh, we love buttercream!

The best part is that the cake is made with elderberry syrup from the Queen’s elderberry trees on one of her estates. You know that is going to be one delicious cake!

Here in America, more specifically in the South, we love tiered cakes, as well.

Southern Living shared a post with pictures of Southern cakes including a three-tiered wedding cake on an upside-down basket surrounded by peaches.

You’ll also find cakes with sugared anemones, dogwood flowers, and a colorful hand-painted cake.

Hors-d’oeuvres

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle had quite a list of hors-d’oeuvres for the reception given by the Queen.

Kensington Palace shared the menu with us:

“Guests will be served a selection of canapés, including:

  • Scottish Langoustines wrapped in Smoked Salmon with Citrus Crème Fraiche
  • Grilled English Asparagus wrapped in Cumbrian Ham
  • Garden Pea Panna Cotta with Quail Eggs and Lemon Verbena
  • Heritage Tomato and Basil Tartare with Balsamic Pearls
  • Poached Free Range Chicken bound in a Lightly Spiced Yoghurt with Roasted Apricot
  • Croquette of Confit Windsor Lamb, Roasted Vegetables and Shallot Jam
  • Warm Asparagus Spears with Mozzarella and Sun-Blush Tomatoes”

Doesn’t it sound wonderful?! I think I might have seconds on the chicken bound in a lightly spiced yoghurt.

Southern Brides serve some of the following hors-d’oeuvres to their guests (from around the web):
